Twenty-five years strong!

25-300.jpgJohn Moore and Russell Baum celebrated their commitment to each other at a civil partnership ceremony in Geelong last Saturday.

The couple, who have been together for 25 years, said a major reason for their celebration was to demonstrate to young people that it is possible for same-sex attracted people to have loving, meaningful and long-term partnerships.

“Negative public opinion has caused many same-sex couples to be discreet for their own protection,” Moore said.

“That has been a great shame, because young people desperately need role modelling in this very important segment of our society.”

What a lovely and loving couple. Long term couples seem not to participate in gay community events but give support in their own quiet way (such as subscribing to Joy 94.9 and listening or to Vic Bears but not going, etc..). And they seem to do the dinner party thing with close gay couples they have met along the way (not always easy, but appreciated when it happens). For these reasons, the number of mature gays in mature relationships can often be underestimated. As a consequence, the gay press tends to ignore them and their issues, which is a shame. However, this is the price we pay for a quiet lifestyle and going about our business in our own way, trying to live as "normal" a life as possible with the one we love. Well done John & Russell, an inspiration to us all.
