The faces of AIDS
Written by Richard Watts
A new photographic exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day will be launched in Melbourne this Monday.

About Face – turning the tide on HIV/AIDS in South Africa is a series of portraits of South Africans working in community-founded HIV/AIDS support programs. Writer and photographer Katie Langmore travelled to South Africa early this year to visit a number of the projects, which are funded by AngliCORD, the co-presenter of the exhibition with the Victorian AIDS Council.

“I was inspired and humbled, not just by the dedication shown by these people, but by their dignity and humour in the face of such adversity,” Langmore said.

The exhibition’s launch coincides with the beginning of AIDS Awareness Week, which culminates on December 1, World AIDS Day.

About Face – turning the tide on HIV/AIDS in South Africa at Gasworks Arts Park, Albert Park. Now showing until Sunday, November 30.
