The combined 2008 Midsumma Festival and Asia Pacific Outgames programs were jointly launched on Monday night. “Melburnians are known for our cultural diversity, passion for sport and insatiable appetite for entertainment,” Melbourne’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Gary Singer (pictured) told the assembled crowd. “Connecting Midsumma and the Outgames has created a rare opportunity to demonstrate just why our city is the world’s pre-eminent cultural capital.” Midsumma Chair Ms Lisa Watts said that the launch was an important opportunity to celebrate the success of united collaboration. “Midsumma belongs to all of us and last night felt like a shared celebration of that,” she told MCV on Tuesday.
