Last week saw hundreds of bears from across Australia flock
to Melbourne for Southern HiBearnation, an annual event, and the largest of its
kind in the southern hemisphere.
The highlight was The Mr Australasia Bear Contest 2008, held
at The Laird last Saturday night.
This year’s winner was Heath Jones from Auckland,
New Zealand
(pictured) who was presented with his sash by Ray Simonsen, the 2007 winner.
“This was the most successful Southern
HiBearnation ever,” VicBears president Phil Webster told MCV. “Every event was packed out, and
although we’re still doing final figures, it should be the largest amount of
money we’ve ever raised for charity.”
