When Russell T. Davies announced he was leaving the helm of Dr Who, a franchise that he resurrected over four stunning series, there was speculation that the next Doctor would be played by gay actor Russell Tovey. Davies, himself gay, was also the creator of the original Queer As Folk series, and suggested Tovey for the role. The Doctor, an alien time traveller from the planet Gallifrey, frequently regenerates, which gives the BBC the chance to place new actors in the title role of the series. Doctor Who first aired in 1963. But the Beeb has now revealed that a 26-year-old relative unknown has been chosen as the 11th TARDIS pilot, smashing the hopes of some fans. On Saturday it was announced that Matt Smith will be the next Doctor. Smith is best-known for his leading role in BBC2 political drama series Party Animals, now airing in Australia on ABC 1. Smith takes over from David Tennant, who leaves the show later this year after filming his final four specials, the first of which starts shooting this month. The UK’s Pink News reports the tabloid press have been quick to establish that Smith has a Brazilian girlfriend and is likely to become a pin-up as the younges

Matt Smith a Pin Up> Not Quite!
written by Joe Bua , January 08, 2009 I'm sure he's a very nice young man but he's no pin up, and I know from pin ups. And I don't care that he's not attractive or not gay but he's so so young. And I would have preferred Paterson Joseph, he has the demeanor of a swashbuckling hero. report abuse
