Australia’s
largest regional gay and lesbian festival has announced their entertainment
lineup for 2008.
Organisers of Daylesford’s ChillOut
Festival say they are ‘very happy’ with the acts they have secured this year, and
the vast range of entertainment on offer.
“We were trying to cover a range of things
because ChillOut is not just for the gay community, it’s for the locals too,”
ChillOut’s secretary, Doug Pollard, told MCV.
“We wanted to have the bush dance with a
proper bush band and we also have lesbian favourite Rebecca Barnard, who is
performing with Tim Rogers [of You Am I fame].”
“There is comedy, disco and of course drag;
you can’t do anything in Daylesford without including drag.”
Although several community events cancelled
during this year’s Midsumma Festival, ChillOut has reported an increase in
ticket sales and interest compared to previous years.
“Website hits are up 30% compared to the
last ChillOut. We have sold a quarter of the tickets for the dance party already
so we are doing really well,” Mr Pollard said.
The 2007 ChillOut festival was cancelled
due to committee ‘burn out’ and a general sense that Daylesford Council may
have been taking the festival for granted; however Mr Pollard says the decision
to cancel the event last year has proved to be beneficial, and council is now “on
board 100%”.
“The local community realised ChillOut is
worth a lot of money. Both the local supermarkets said they do better business
during our festival than at Christmas. They said please please come back.”
