Marches
and festivals celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender pride have
been held around the globe over the last week, marking the anniversary of the
Stonewall Riots in Christopher
Street, New York in
June, 1969.
Half a million Parisians and tens of thousands of Berliners
took to their city streets last Saturday; while in San Francisco, pop singer
Cyndi Lauper was a guest of honour at the city’s 38th annual Pride
Parade.
On Sunday, in Colombia,
thousands marched through the streets calling for a law
granting social security and matrimonial rights for gay couples; while India saw its first ‘Rainbow Pride Walk’ in New Delhi (pictured), Bangalore
and Calcutta.
