SCHMOOF [COUNCIL POP]

Synthpop addicts will be hooked on this second album from London electro couplet Sarah and Lloyd Schmoof (and I kid you not – that’s their name). Self-described as ‘analogue Atari electro-synth pop with sexy girly vocals’, this pair make pop from olde worlde analogue synthesizers sourced from the pre-PC days of the 70s and 80s. A 1985 Atari ST drives these ancient monsters, and creating a sound that could be from another era but is tricked up to sound chic and contemporary. In other worlds, queers stuck on Erasure and the PSBs, and more recently Annie and Robyn, will immediately enjoy tracks like ‘Rock Wife’, ‘Shallow Boy’, ‘Backseat Driver’ and ‘Pink King’.
