Slipway Fires

musicrazorlight-250.jpgSLIPWAY FIRES—RAZORLIGHT [MERCURY]
Headed by the supremely sexy (in a “wash your hands Jeffrey” kinda way) Johnny Borrell, the UK’s stupendous Razorlight finally return with a long-awaited follow-up to their self-tiled runaway success. And after a solid week of hammering this album, can I say that the wait is every bit worth it. Slipway Fires is everything a rock fan could have asked for, and a whole lot more. Recorded in the geographically isolated Inner Hebrides, this is an epic collection of power songs, each and every one is imposing, intense, dramatic and, dammit, anthemic. It’s a stroke of musical genius recorded under the watchful eye of Mike Crossey.
Johnny is in classy form, his voice on fire burning up the sensual lyrics and energetic rock sound. Be sure to stick around the last song ‘The House’. It’s a beautiful, ode to father, tear jerker.
