One of the Boys
musickaty-250.jpgONE OF THE BOYS—KATY PERRY [EMI]
From a magical recording to one of pure illusion, Katy Perry’s debut album, One of the Boys, is a disguise. Like her cheap-arse jibes at gays (and perhaps worse, straight men who dare to express their feelings) and her minor dabbling with bi-curiosity after too many drinks (but all the time reaffirming her total and tragically mainstream hetero-ness), Katy’s extremist, Bible-bashed upbringing is still clearly rooted in her social politics. The apple does not fall far from the ultra-conservative parental preacher tree; and while she may have engaged the services of The Matrix (Britney and Avril) on the mixing desk, and changed her name from Hudson to Perry, Katy is nothing more than a superficial pop abomination.
