They’ll do anything to create a compilation these days, including something so shamelessly simple as whacking together a gender specific theme. It’s hardly the stuff of grand inspiration, but results in an enjoyable femme frolic regardless. Straddling the twin discs are the lesbo-friendly Missy Higgins, P!nk and Sarah McLaughlin; the Aussie heavyweights Renee Geyer, Kate Ceberano and Kasey Chambers; the gay pinups Kylie, Tina Cousins and Ricki-Lee; indie queens Rosin Murphy, Kate Bush and Kate Nash; and the soul sounds of Macy Gray, Norah Jones and Jamelia. The eclectic approach to track selection offers some strength in the variety that women bring to pop, but also a weakness in it’s all-over-the-shop flow.
