RELAPSEEminem Universal 2.5 stars Now I have to be honest here, you’ve got a snowball’s chance in hell of finding me voluntarily listening to an Eminem album. Hip-hop just isn’t my thing – its intrinsic anger and aggression is so far from my reality that I can’t relate. To me it’s all bitches, ho’s, sluts and busting caps. Having said that, I suppose there’s no doubt that Marshall Mathers is a talented rapper, and on Relapse (his first album in five years) he’s doing what he does best – cleaning out his closet. And, after being doped up on Valium and its many chemical cousins before getting clean last year, there’s plenty of shit to clean out. He’s still going on about his mother and how she used to sprinkle Valium on his peas et cetera, but this record is honest, vital and tragic.
