I agree with Mike of Brunswick East’s letter in MCV #373 (Thursday
February 28). I was so glad to see a story about our indigenous
community’s response to the Federal Government’s apology to the Stolen
Generations, A) because it makes sense to hear what they have to say,
and B) because there was a shameful lack of coverage in the rest of the
queer media.
I am an Italo-Australian gay man and the level of racism in the gay
community never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes I feel as if I am
surrounded by a bunch of rednecks, only in better clothing.
Some of the racist remarks that fly freely around are meant to be
tongue in cheek but I can’t help but feel there may be some truth to
what comes out of people’s mouths sometimes.
I applaud MCV for including a necessary story and I only hope to see much more inclusion of our diverse community in your paper.
