Poor Anthony Venn-Brown can’t accept that some people do manage to leave the homosexual lifestyle simply because he surrendered to it. There are many groups in Australia still effectively helping people who want to leave their same-sex feeling behind. No, not everyone makes it, just as many people cannot give up smoking or pornography, but just because some fail, it does not mean it is not possible. As someone who knows many people who have succeeded, I find Venn-Brown’s self justification failure message very hollow and extremely hurtful to those people he is calling a liar. written by Laurens (ex-lecturer and board , June 22, 2008 "Poor Anthony Venn-Brown"? There is nothing poor about the man! A very happy, well-adjusted and spiritual person contributing in an extremely positive way to society without the bitterness that is in your voice. No, I think it's "Poor Peter". report abuse

written by Rev. Dr. Ninure D. Saunders , June 20, 2008 Here's my thought on all this... If you went to a dentist, and he told he could tell you how many patients he had successfully treated, would you trust him to work on you mouth? If you went to a car mechanic to have your brakes fixed, and you found that at least 80% of the brakes he worked on failed, would you allow him to get anywhere near your car? What the ex-gay movement claim and does to human being, lives, and families is far worse than either of these scenarios. report abuse

written by Andrew Jones , June 20, 2008 "Hate the sin and love the sinner" is nothing more than a made up phrase used by some people (like Peter Stokes et al) to justify their prejudice and hatred. Soulfully Gay Joe Perez, 2007 The people Peter parades as "cured" of their homosexuality have been bullied and battered psychologically to the point where they submit to others controlling them. Peter Stokes is terribly misinformed and nothing less than a shocking attention seeker. Peter hates all gay people. And he has his reasons but never discloses the sad story behind his hatred. I have attended three separate lots of conversion therapy and can safely declare they are as flawed as the people that run and advocate them. No amount of sleep deprivation, social manipulation, or Bible-thumping on the part of the managers of these insidious courses will correct one's gay orientation based on outdated biblical interpretation and bad social science. Peter Stokes is one the last "ex-gay dinosaurs". His rhetoric is predictable and boorish. His mantra of ex-gay conversion is profoundly damaging and irresponsible when placed at the feet of overwhelming evidence contradicting his empty position. He suffers a bad case of heterosexism. Poor Peter Stokes really ought to find something better to do with his time as his often punitive outbursts bring no love and compassion. The cold heart of this man is obvious to all and best ignored. report abuse

written by darren r b , June 20, 2008 Doesn't the Bible say, "no weapon formed against me shall prosper, all those who rise up against me shall fall, I will not fear what the devil may bring me because I am a servant of God... love one another as I loved you..." And anyway, God doesn't hate homosexuals, he hates sin but unfortunately that's how Christians are meant to see homosexuality as: sin... and God says hate the sin not the sinner... If we are gonna be a witness as gay Christians, we too must follow the Bible. So as Peter Stokes has slapped your cheek, give him the other one. Life goes on... report abuse

written by Bruce B , June 20, 2008 I think that Anthony Venn-Brown is a bit more up to date on the developments in the ex-gay movement than you, Peter. SEE: http://alifeofunlearning.blogs...aders.html Alan Chambers directs Exodus International, widely described as the nation’s largest ex-gay ministry. But when he addresses the group’s Freedom Conference at Concordia University in Irvine this month, Chambers won’t celebrate successful “ex-gays.†Truth is, he’s not sure he’s ever met one, so it says in the Los Angeles Times. http://articles.latimes.com/2007/jun/18/nation/na-exgay18 Yes, there are people who leave the 'homosexual lifestyle' as you call it. What they are leaving though is not there sexual orientation they are usually leaving a sad life of sexual addiction, self-destructive behaviours and empty, meaningless sexual encounters. Much like those who leave the same 'heterosexual lifestyle' to become Christians. It's not the same-sex orientation that is the problem it's their behaviours (often the result of poor self-worth). Likening same-sex orientation to addictions of smoking and pornography shows a very poor understanding of science and the make up of human beings. Do some more research, Peter, and get back to us. report abuse

written by chris w , June 20, 2008 hahahah...what the? Peter Stokes?? ...are you still around? Hahaha! Are you still trying to get gays to hate themselves? Maybe the guys that you see "wanting to leave their same-sex feelings behind" are like that because you keep on making them feel like 'failures' ...for being who they are?? I don't get that. Peter ...even in Christian circles, this debate is well and truly over. It's ok for you to start liking people now. report abuse
