I am writing to MCV to thank you for your ongoing support of the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, and to ask for your assistance in notifying your readers that memberships to the Rights Lobby for the 2008-09 financial year are now open.

The Lobby is a completely volunteer-run organisation which relies on member funds to help us maintain the fight for equality, human rights and social justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and same-sex attracted Victorians.

In the next 12 months we will see significant changes to our rights, including the commencement of the Victorian Relationships Register allowing official recognition of same-sex relationships in Victoria; and the introduction of Commonwealth laws to eliminate discrimination against same-sex couples.

The Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby works to ensure that discrimination against our community is eradicated through lobbying both state and federal governments. Currently, the Federal Opposition is blocking changes to the bills before Parliament and there is significant pressure from the Christian lobby to block recognition of our relationships and families.

The Rights Lobby continues to fight to end homophobia in schools, sport and the workplace; end discrimination in healthcare; obtain greater access to IVF and adoption; and continues to present the case for same-sex marriage.

Membership of the Rights Lobby makes our collective voices louder. Members’ financial support is critical to ensure we can lobby politicians and educate fellow Victorians about our common goal: equality, human rights and social justice.

At only $20 for individuals, $5.50 for concession and $30 for organizations, membership is a very affordable way to make a significant difference. All money goes directly into assisting the Rights Lobby with our campaigns.

Members get the latest Lobby news delivered via email, have an opportunity to get involved in campaigning and are invited to all Rights Lobby events.
