Andrew Shaw
The term ‘fantasy man’ has taken on new meaning with artist
David Kawena’s homoerotic treatment of Disney heroes.
The Israeli conceptual artist has drawn together a cast of
male cartoon characters and given them the underwear model treatment, posing
them in briefs, leather and... moose skin.
Hercules, Aladdin and Tarzan are represented in sepia-toned,
muscle-toned beauty, with tattoos, wrist bands and bedroom eyes.
“So, what's next for me?!” Kawena enthuses on his website.
“Well there will be more Disney Heroes coming very soon! But I swear, people,
if I'll (sic) see any more requests for Prince Adam (Beast) to be part of the
Disney Heroes Collection, I'll just won’t draw him at all!”
Turning cartoon figures into the sorts of images normally found
in the Myer men’s catalogue may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but there is
something to be grateful for: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Sully from Monsters
Inc are not included in the gallery.
