“Nature’s inherent cyclical processes of growth and renewal provide
a metaphor for the diversity yet commonality of experiences that shape
aspects of each individual’s life journey.”
Thus wrote sculptress Simone Eisler in her artist’s statement for an
installation she did at the Prince Charles Hospital in her native
Brisbane last year.
Eisler’s works are curiously familiar, yet alien; the shapes forming
an enhanced organic entity that refuses to give up its secrets at a
first glance. Is it an elephant’s graveyard, or something nastier from
our human nightmares?
Anima Requiem, at Gallerysmith, 170-174 Abbotsford St, North Melbourne, until November 15.
