Celebrating the craft of writing, the fifth annual Emerging Writers’ Festival gathers
together scribes and scribblers, poets and publishers, songwriters and
scriptwriters – including MCV contributor
Maxine Clarke – to talk about the world of writing. Through a series of panels,
workshops, performances and lectures, the city comes alive with a jostling of
ideas between our newest writers and avid readers.
Highlights include the keynote speech, So, I’ve Emerged by newly-published author Andrew Hutchinson, whose
debut novel Rohypnol was published by
Random House last year; Scrabble a
tribute to wordsmith and songwriter Paul Kelly in poetry and prose; and The 48-Hour
Play Generator, in which five emerging playwrights are given just two days
to write five new plays, which are then staged as a dramatised reading.
