| Too sexy for my art |
Each year, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA)
at Southbank commissions a group of up-and-coming young artists for the annual
NEW exhibition; providing them with the chance to develop work on a larger
scale than might previously have been possible on their own.
Paul Knight, who is currently studying at the Glasgow School of Art, is one of the artists selected for NEW08.
“It’s a chance to be exposed to a whole different
environment and learn a new set of experiences from a different culture,”
Knight says of studying in One such difference became apparent when Knight was looking for models for his NEW08 works, which explore human intimacy and our need for relationships, and the form of the body in a sculptural way.
“One of the things I’ve noticed about being in As many of Knight’s works are sexually explicit, he was required to develop a close rapport with his models in order to capture the images he required.
“It’s a process of building a sense of trust between me and
them … because at the end of the day, I need to know they’re able to perform on
the day and take part in the way I want them to."
