Spanish Gems
p16_arts_agenda_image1-250.jpgFeaturing a dazzling line-up of contemporary and classic films, La Mirada, Jewels of Spanish Cinema showcases the works and perspectives of truly outstanding directors and actors. One of the highlights of the program is a package of films personally selected by auteur and iconoclast, Pedro Almodovar.

I know that I am fortunate in that my films are seen in Australia but there are many extraordinary filmmakers both from previous and current generations who remain to be discovered. I strongly believe that through La Mirada we will open a window for these artists’ work to be viewed,” Almodovar writes in the festival program.

Screening alongside these Spanish classics, and a special presentation of films about flamenco, are a range of dramas, comedies and documentaries, including the Australian premiere of Alex de la Iglesia’s Oxford Murders, staring Elijah Wood and John Hurt (pictured).
